Papoilas / Poppies

Esta foto, de papoilas em vários estádios de desenvolvimento, captada no Pinhal da Gândara, no concelho de Mira, foi distinguida com o 1º Prémio, na categoria Flora, Líquenes e Fungos, no Concurso de Fotografia de Natureza “Parques e Vida Selvagem 2019”, organizado pelo Parque Biológico de Gaia.

Durante o período primaveril, as suas frágeis pétalas vermelhas embelezam e alegram os nossos campos. Foi o que aconteceu na Primavera do ano de 2018, após o violento incêndio que grassou por terras de Mira, em Outubro de 2017. Visualizá-las, com um céu níveo, dá-me esperança que a Terra ainda poderá continuar a ser um paraíso.

This photo of poppies in various stages of development, captured in the Pinewood of Gândara, in the municipality of Mira, was awarded the 1st Prize in the Flora, Lichens and Fungi category, in the Nature Photography Contest "Parques e Vida Selvagem 2019" , organized by the Biological Park of Gaia. During the spring period, its fragile red petals embellish and brighten our fields. This was what happened in the spring of 2018, after the violent fire that raged through Mira lands in October 2017. To visualize them, with a snowy sky, gives me hope that the Earth can still be a paradise .

Esta imagem de um Pica-pau-malhado-grande, captada a partir do interior da minha casa, foi uma das últimas visões que tive desta espécie de ave peculiar, tímida, difícil de observar e cujo tamborilar é facilmente audível e reconhecível. O seu mundo é indissociavelmente o das árvores. Foi distinguida com o 2º Prémio, na categoria Arte Fotográfica, na 4ª edicção do concurso de fotografia “GENERG – FOTÓGRAFO DE NATUREZA DO ANO 2019”, no IX CINCLUS FEST – Festival de Imagem de Natureza, que teve lugar em Vouzela.

This photo of a Great Spotted Woodpecker captured  from the inside of my home it was one of the last visions I had of this bird species. Peculair, timid, difficult to observe and whose drumming is easily audible and recognizable. Their world is the trees world. It was distinguished with the 2nd Prize in the category Photographic Art, in the 4th edition of the Photo Contest "GENERG – NATURE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2019", in the IX CINCLUS FEST – Nature Image Festival, which took place in Vouzela, Portugal.

Seis meses após Ofélia / Six months after Ophelia

Esta foto, captada em Mira, muito próximo da minha casa, foi distinguida com o Prémio Acções - Alterações Climáticas, na 2ª edicção do concurso nacional de fotografia 2018 “A ÁRVORE”, patrocinado pela Câmara Municipal de Vila Nova de Gaia e pelo Parque Biológico de Gaia.

Após o trágico incêndio ocorrido em 15 de Outubro de 2017 e, apesar da secura que se prolongou pelo outono dentro, o inverno e a primavera pluviosa que se lhe seguiram, contribuíram para que os campos da Gândara ficassem coloridos com uma grande variedade de cores de diversas espécies de plantas que alegraram efemeramente uma terra devastada pelo fogo. Entre elas, a Tremocilha (Lupinus luteus), com as suas flores amarelas contrastaram fortemente com a negrura esquelética dos milhões de árvores que morreram de pé, numa representação da luta eterna entre a morte e a vida …

This photo, taken at Mira, very close to my home, was awarded the Prize, in “Actions - Climate Change” category, in the 2nd edition of the 2018 National Photography Contest "THE TREE".

After the tragic fire that occurred on October 15, 2017, and despite the dry weather that continued throughout the Autumn, the rainy winter and spring that followed, contributed to the Gândara fields being colored with a great variety of colors of several species of plants that effemingly rejoiced a land devastated by fire. Amongst them, the Yellow lupine (Lupinus luteus), with their yellow flowers contrasted strongly with the skeletal blackness of the millions of trees that died standing, representing the eternal fight between death and life ...

Pequena ave / Litlle bird

Esta foto de um Chapim-real num ambiente onírico, captada em Mira (no coração da Gândara) a escassos metros da minha casa, foi distinguida com o 1º Prémio, na categoria Aves, na 3ª edicção do concurso de fotografia “GENERG – FOTÓGRAFO DE NATUREZA DO ANO 2018”, no VIII CINCLUS FEST – Festival de Imagem de Natureza, que teve lugar em Vouzela. Concorreram cerca de uma centena de fotógrafos, com cerca de duas mil imagens, naquele que, na actualidade, é o maior evento de fotografia de natureza realizado em Portugal.

“Pequena ave” resulta de uma dupla exposição captada nas proximidades da minha casa, em que a realidade e o sonho se fundem e nos transportam a uma dimensão onírica: a das florestas encantadas e das pequenas aves que a habitam.

This photo of a Great Tit in a dream environment, taken at Mira, near my home, was distinguished with the 1st Prize in the category Birds, in the 3nd edition of the Photo Contest "GENERG – NATURE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2018", in the VIII CINCLUS FEST – Nature Image Festival, which took place in Vouzela, Portugal. About 100 photographers, with around 2000 images, participated in what is the largest nature photography event held in Portugal.

"Little bird" comes from a double exposure captured near my house, where reality and dream merge and carry us to a dreamlike dimension: that of the enchanted forests and the small birds that inhabit it.
