Entre Linhas / Between Lines

Em 2013, durante os derradeiros dias da estação mais fria do ano, até ao limite da última luz, foram muitos os finais de dia que me sentei na margem da Lagoa de Mira a observar o bando de galeirões que ali invernava. Procurava realizar uma imagem que mostrasse o final do dia destas aves procurando o seu sustento no refúgio proporcionado por este lençol de água. Num desses momentos, ao longe, a linha de água era definida pela luz fria que beijava a margem poente. Foi então, que entre mim e o grupo de galeirões, um pato-real sulcou calmamente a água criando um sulco na sua superfície, refletindo a luz numa linha paralela à linha de água do horizonte. Um momento único! Um instante irrepetível!

In 2013, during the last days of the coldest season of the year, up to the last light, many were the end of the day that I sat down on the edge of Lagoa de Mira observing the flock of coots that wintering there. I was looking for an image that shows the end of the day of these birds, feeding in the refuge provided by this body of water. In one of these moments, the water line was defined by the cold light that kissed the west edge. Suddenly, between me and the group of coots, one mallard softly crossed the water creating a groove on its surface, reflecting the light in a parallel line to the water line of the horizon. A single moment! An unrepeatable moment!

Geralmente os pica-paus são aves timídas e cautelosas que estão sempre alerta. A maioria das vezes o nosso contacto com estas espécies resume-se à audição do seu característico tamborilar no tronco de uma árvore ou fruto dos sinais dos tempos modernos, em algum poste metálico de linhas eléctricas de média e alta tensão. Por vezes, lá os conseguimos vislumbar no seu voo recto com amplos movimentos ondulatórios. Mercê dos muitos incêndios que vão grassando um pouco por todos o país, é cada vez mais frequente observá-los em árvores isoladas, onde a sua silhueta nos permite obter imagens diferentes do habitual. Foi este o caso. Desta feita com um Pica-pau-malhado-grande Dendrocopus major.

Generally woodpeckers are shy birds that are always cautious and alert. Most times our contact with these species comes down to hearing his distinctive drum on the trunk of a tree or fruit of the signs of modern times, on some metal pole power lines of medium and high voltage. Sometimes we observe them in their straight flight with broad undulations. Result of of the many fires that raged by all the country, it is increasingly common to observe them on isolated trees, where its silhouette allows us to obtain different images from usual. This was the case. This time with a Great Spotted Woodpecker Dendrocopus major.

The Arrival of Flamingos / A Chegada dos Flamingos

Os flamingos com os seus corpos de tons rosados, longos pescoços e patas compridas, são um grupo de aves que desde sempre atraíu a atenção dos humanos. Em Portugal são possíveis de observar ao longo de todo o ano, tendo a sua população invernante aumentado de forma marcada nos últimos anos.  No estuário do Rio Mondego, a presença da espécie pode-se considerar regular a partir do ano 2000, sendo frequente observar bandos com várias centenas de aves. Esta foto foi captada numa saída de campo á Ilha da Murraceira, localizada naquele estuário, na companhia do Luís Rocha. Enquanto estava a observar algumas aves a alimentarem-se numa salina, fui surpreendido pela chegada deste pequeno grupo, que apenas me permitiu fazer quatro clicadas. esta foi uma delas e acabei de receber a notícia que foi premiada com a FD RCA Club Gold Medal, da Sociedade de Fotografia Eslovena.

The flamingos with their bodies pinkness, long necks and long legs, are a group of birds that has always attracted the attention of humans. In Portugal are possible to observe throughout the year and its wintering population increased markedly in recent years. In the Mondego River estuary, the presence of the species can be considered regular from 2000, being frequently observed flocks of several hundred birds. This photo was captured on a field output at Murraceira Island, located at the estuary, in the company of Luis Rocha. While watching some birds to feed in a saline, I was surprised by the arrival of this little group that only allowed me to do four clicked. This was one of them and just got the news that was awarded with the RCA FD Club Gold Medal, by the Society of Slovenian Photography.

Relativamente fácil de observar na Serra da Freita, a Ferreirinha está entre as minhas aves preferidas. Talvez pela sua plumagem de tons suaves ou pelo seu comportamento "afável". Num dia em que caíu um intenso nevão, este indivíduo deixou-se fotografar sem receio, dando-me tempo suficiente para que procurasse a melhor composição possível e o prazer de disfrutar da sua companhia durante alguns minutos.

Relatively easy to observe in the Freita's Mountain, Dunnock are among my favorite birds. Perhaps by their soft tones plumage or their "affable" behavior. On a day that has fallen a heavy snowfall, this individual was allowed to shoot without fear, giving me enough time to look for the best possible composition and pleasure of enjoying their company for a few minutes.

Cânticos que entoam da montanha / Canticles that intone from the mountain

Ventos sopram da Serra da Freita transportando até aos ouvidos de dois Gândareses cânticos que anunciam bons augúrios: "vist trak-trak ist...". Que anunciarão os versos chilreantes deste Cartaxo em cima de um tojo empoleirado? Em 2013 todos ficarão a saber!!!

Winds blow from Mountain of Freita transporting into the ears of two  "Gândareses" songs announcing good omens: "vist trak-trak ist ...". What will announce the verses tweet by this Common Stonechat over a furze perched? In 2013 everyone will know!!!
